Veganuary: Kicking Off The Year Right!
What is Veganuary?
Veganuary is a non-profit organization that encourages people worldwide to try vegan for January and beyond. Launched in the UK in 2014, the challenge has spread to the U.S. and other countries, with more than 250,000 people taking the movement’s pledge in 201. More than 500 brands, restaurants, and supermarkets promoted the campaign and launched more than 200 new vegan products and menus in the UK market alone.
Throughout the year, Veganuary encourages and supports people and businesses alike to move to a plant-based diet as a way of protecting the environment, preventing animal suffering and improving the health of millions of people.
What is a Vegan Diet?
The term “vegan” was coined in 1944 by a small group of vegetarians who broke away from the Leicester Vegetarian Society in England to form the Vegan Society. Veganism is currently defined as a way of living that attempts to exclude all forms of animal exploitation and cruelty, be it from food, clothing, or any other purpose.
A vegan diet means omitting all animal products including meat, fish, poultry, dairy, eggs, and honey. Instead, vegans load up on vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, lentils, nuts, seeds, and soy. Studies have found it could also lead to weight loss, boost psychological well-being and potentially improve health.
At Laumière Gourmet Fruits, we are proud to support Veganuary and want to mention that all our collections are vegan-friendly. We used nuts of various types including pistachio and almonds. Most of the rare nuts we used in our creations are sourced locally from Bakersfield, California and offer innumerous benefits.
